Terms for using the Syllabloom beta

Operator and eligibility

An individual project owner currently operates Syllabloom Beta. No separate legal entity has been formed. For questions about these terms, email ethan.g.beirne@gmail.com.

You must be at least 13 to use Syllabloom. If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian where local law requires it. Do not use the service if you are not legally allowed to accept these terms.

These beta terms don't name a governing-law location because the project owner's operating jurisdiction hasn't been confirmed. This will need review before a wider or paid release.

Accounts

Provide accurate sign-in details and protect your account. Tell us if you think someone else has accessed it. You're responsible for activity through your account unless applicable law says otherwise.

Don't share account access in a way that exposes another student's private class workspace. We may limit or suspend access to protect users, the service, or its security. When practical, we'll explain why.

The beta service

Syllabloom organizes course information, creates notes and concepts from supported sources, prepares review cards, tracks study activity, and exports approved cards to Anki. You decide whether generated material is useful and whether to keep or export it.

Features may be incomplete, change, or become unavailable during testing. Hosted lecture transcription isn't enabled. Audio and video in the media library stay in the browser on the device where you added them and don't sync across devices.

Source parsing and card generation can miss context or produce errors. Syllabloom is a study aid, not a substitute for course instruction, official requirements, or your judgment.

Your materials

You keep your rights to the course materials and other content you provide. You allow Syllabloom to receive, process, display, sync, transform, and export that content only as needed to run the features you choose and maintain the beta.

Only submit content you have permission to use. You are responsible for following copyright rules, school policies, and any consent requirements before recording or sharing a class, lecturer, or other student. Avoid uploading sensitive personal information that is not needed for study.

To generate cards, Syllabloom sends extracted text from documents categorized as class materials and past assessments to OpenAI's API. The original uploaded file is not sent to OpenAI. Documents categorized as syllabi are excluded from card generation; if you manually override a document's type, the selected type controls processing. The Privacy Policy describes provider handling and retention. You authorize this processing when you choose to upload a supported source for card generation. Do not submit confidential or sensitive information unless you have permission and are comfortable with that processing.

Acceptable use

Do not use Syllabloom to break the law, infringe another person's rights, bypass account or service limits, interfere with service security, distribute harmful code, or access another user's information without permission.

Study materials and Anki exports

AI-generated cards are drafts. Syllabloom checks for a matching source passage, but that doesn't guarantee factual accuracy, completeness, or suitability for a course. Check each card and passage against your source before studying or exporting. Anki is a separate product. After you download and import a package, your Anki setup and the applicable Anki terms govern its storage, scheduling, and use.

Exported decks may not preserve every collection-wide Anki setting. Keep your own copies of important study data and check a package after import.

Fees

The public beta is free, and live payment checkout is not enabled in this build. We'll show the price and billing terms before asking you to subscribe or pay. Don't enter payment details into Syllabloom while checkout is unavailable.

Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains how Syllabloom handles account data, course workspace information, source processing, local media, and service-provider data. By using the beta, you acknowledge that notice.

Changes, service limits, and contact

We may update these terms as the beta changes. If an update materially affects users, we will update the date above and provide notice in the app when practical. Continuing to use the service after an update means you accept the revised terms, to the extent allowed by law.

The beta is provided while it is being tested and may be interrupted or discontinued. Nothing in these terms removes consumer rights or remedies that applicable law does not allow us to limit. We do not promise uninterrupted access or error-free study materials.
