Generating cards is only the first step
If you use Claude, ChatGPT, or another assistant, you can ask it to draft questions from a slide deck. That's a reasonable way to get started. Syllabloom needs to offer more than the same prompt behind a different button.
The work continues after the first draft. You still need to know which file a fact came from, whether it appears on the syllabus, when the next exam is, and which cards you've studied. You also need a way to edit the wording and export only the cards you want. Syllabloom keeps those tasks together for one class.
Compare what each tool is for
This is not a benchmark of which model writes the best answer. Use the tool that gives you accurate cards you're comfortable studying.
- A chat assistant
- Useful for a focused request or for rewriting a difficult idea. You're responsible for keeping the source, syllabus dates, edits, study history, and export settings organized.
- Anki
- A mature spaced-repetition app for creating cards and scheduling reviews. Syllabloom prepares an editable set for one class and exports it to Anki; it doesn't replace Anki's scheduler.
- Syllabloom
- A one-class workspace for syllabus dates, course materials, source-linked cards, in-app study, and an Anki export you can inspect and edit first.
Keep the source next to the question
A card can sound plausible and still be wrong for your course. A source label takes you back to the slide, document, or note it came from. You can check whether the prompt tests the right idea, whether the answer adds unsupported details, and whether the card is worth keeping.
A source link doesn't prove that a card is accurate. You should review, correct, or remove cards before studying them. The link simply makes that checking easier.
What Syllabloom needs to do well
- It can read a real class’s source files and keep useful context attached to the resulting notes and cards.
- It can bring syllabus dates into a calendar and use upcoming assessments to shape a manageable study session.
- It lets you inspect the entire set, edit or delete weak cards, study in the app, or export to the tool you already use.
- It is honest when dates are unclear, when a source has no dated schedule, and when recording transcription is not available.
Those are the parts beta users should test. Does Syllabloom save enough time organizing one difficult class and preparing its deck to earn a place in your routine? If not, it needs more work.
Current beta limits
The current beta is free for one active class and has no paid checkout. Syllabus dates and card drafts still need your review. Audio and video remain on the device; hosted transcription and automatic recording-based cards are not enabled. Account sign-in depends on the deployment’s Clerk configuration, so confirm the sign-in notice on the build you are using.
Anki export lets you take the cards with you. If another assistant makes a better card for a topic, use it. Syllabloom's job is to make the overall class workflow easier, not to claim that every prompt is better than one you've edited yourself.
